BarTender 2021 Support Ends November 30, 2026
Seagull Software’s life-cycle schedule sets November 30, 2026 as the end of support for BarTender 2021. Here is what that means, what newer versions add, and one warning worth reading before anyone upgrades.
BarTender 2021 was released on November 2, 2020. Under Seagull Software’s published life-cycle schedule, its support ends on November 30, 2026 — a little under twelve weeks from now. Customers still running it should plan their move to a supported version before then.
Where every version stands
- BarTender 12 — released February 20, 2026; supported until March 31, 2032.
- BarTender 11.4–11.x — released March 10, 2025; supported until March 31, 2031.
- BarTender 2022 — released April 26, 2022; supported until April 30, 2028.
- BarTender 2021 — released November 2, 2020; support ends November 30, 2026.
- BarTender 2019 and earlier — support has already ended; BarTender 2019’s ended on April 30, 2025.
Before you upgrade: check the maintenance agreement
Seagull’s upgrade path runs through an active Maintenance and Support Agreement (MSA). Step one is confirming the MSA is active; step two is downloading the latest BarTender from Seagull’s Customer Portal. Seagull also publishes a plain warning: installing the latest version while not on an active MSA may overwrite existing label template data.
Our advice is simple: confirm the MSA first, and back up label templates before any upgrade.
What the newer versions add
BarTender 12.1, the current on-premises release, gives a good picture of what a 2021 customer gains by moving up:
- Support for SQL Server 2025, alongside Windows Server 2025 compatibility.
- Librarian content synchronized between cloud and on-premises BarTender, so label templates stay consistent across sites.
- An Offline Mode that lets Print Portal and Print Station keep printing from a local cache during a connectivity problem.
- New Actions API endpoints for listing printers, getting printer details, submitting print jobs and exporting print previews.
- Label-position adjustment at print time through Print Portal, the REST API and the SDK, and multiple PDF files from a single print job.
